Scandinavian Sanctuary on the Strand
This family with hectic lives needed a place to relax, rejuvenate and regroup, so we created a healing sanctuary on the beach. Collaborating with KAA Architects and inspired by the husband’s Swedish heritage, this 3-story house features a temperature and acoustic controlled room designed for deep sleep. Reminiscent of a Norwegian spa, an underground lap pool, spa tub and sauna all in cedar provide a meditative wellness environment. In the master bath, a Shoji screen hides a traditional Japanese soaking tub in hinoki wood with a view of the ocean just beyond.
There’s harmony here, due to the inclusion of all five elements, an uncluttered aesthetic and a Scandinavian sensibility that makes perfect sense on this open stretch of California coastline.
